« I hate my opponents and I don’t want the best for them » is an unscripted phrase from US President Trump that applies to many of his MAGA efforts, at multiple scales.

Let’s review some of these scales.

Trump bullies vs the others

Who are the Trump bullies?

  • Billionaires, led by Musk and Bezos, with a real money interest in the current administration agenda,
  • White supremacists – no need to add straight and christian here, because their ideas are aligned with the President and the Heritage Foundation,
  • Republicans, though I don’t get how they tolerate to be stripped from their power and money by the current administration,

Who are the others?

  • Silent followers of Trump, who shall shortly discover that the future wealth is not for them,
  • Detractors of Trump, and among them the millions we saw in the ‘No kings’ protests.

And when the promises of the administration fail to realize, and if a democratic alternative creates enthusiasm, then the silent followers of Trump switch, as it happened in New York on Nov 4th, 2025 with Mayor Mamdani.

Republicans vs Democrats

While US politics is only blue or red, French politics range from left to right with a dozen nuances.

By the way I love the word nuances and before President Trump I believe there were more nuances and bipartisanship in the US. But you have to hate your opponents, he said.

USA vs others

I do believe some of the tariffs can have some good, meaning that the planet could benefit from more barriers on commerce. But that would require a strategy to manufacture closer to the consumers and a change of habits to consume more what is produced locally.

Trump’s tariffs are a US-as-a-bully action that only considers the US situation.

The rest of the world for this administration is a reservoir of cash to extort and a reservoir of wars to extinct to get a prize.

How can you build a nation on division and hatred?

My question is oriented, because President Trump does not need a nation.

He wants power, and power is easier to get after you have sown division. 30% approval ratings are low but enough to be elected when multiples parties split voices.

The two-party politics of the US that should have prevented that, however all Republicans are, so far, silently aligned behind the President.
