Woke is beautiful

If you need another proof that French is such a wonderful language, just pronounce the word « fourre-tout » !

In his latest book « Elon Musk en 50 tweets », David Chavalarias described the word Woke as a « fourre-tout », a bazar-word. He also gives the most brilliant definition of Woke, that I translate below.

« Elon Musk finds it unthinkable that anyone could consciously develop identities and opinions that contradict his beliefs. Like a child lacking vocabulary, he prefers to distance himself from difference by sticking a catch-all label on it that no longer means anything: “woke.” Those infected with the woke mental virus are those who, among other things, are against “racism, xenophobia, white supremacy, sexism, misogyny, patriarchy, gender discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and fatphobia.” In short, progressives. »

I had been looking for a while for a simple definition of wokism, not based on the historical condition from when it was born, but rather based on what it has become with the current US administration. For example with wokism as the reason why so many words are banned from the US federal administration documents.

And based on the definition above, I can now say that Woke is Beautiful. That it represents all I believe in. So I am happy I do not live in the US and I hope that that trend does not come to Europe too fast.

It reminds me of that great line I read a few weeks ago on a US Instagram post: « Are we great yet? Because I just feel embarrassed »
